“Mass Communication” A Response to Isaac Barnett




Isaac’s blog post about mass communication seemed very bland and uninteresting. I understand that he enjoyed the conversation, but he gave us as readers no information about the topic. Just one short fact, and that he enjoyed it. I would have loved if he would have given us a description of mass comunication, or at least a definition. I agree with Isaac when he says that mass communication is interesting, but that is not the only thing I would say. It is a step by step process that leads to the entire world knowing something about anything. If Isaac were interested in the topic as he says, he would have showed his interest more, right?

To clarify, this story explains how an older, female employee stabbed three infants and two adults in a home daycare. She then proceeded to go to the basement and makes an attempt to end her life via slicing her wrist with a knife. All parties involved were rushed to the hospital and are in critical condition. While intriguing and interesting, this story does not meet the criteria to be considered newsworthy journalism. Newsworthiness is a very important factor that determines the difference between good and bad journalism. “Music and Recordings” A response to Anna Schroll

     In Anna’s post, she explains how music has affected her life and all of society. She tells about how she cannot study or draw without music, and it often helps her on tests. Music has become a huge industry, and it is affecting millions of lives. Anna accurately explains how music has taken over culture, too. It has spread the cultures of other people around the world to us in America, and vice versa.       Anna’s description of the music industry is very accurate. It has taken over society, which is both good and bad. Response to Lily Wobbe’s response to Current Events Quizes

Lily Wobbe was very upfront about her opinions regarding our current events quizes in our Journalism 1 class. She explained how she does not agree with the choices of news sources used; NPR, WFPL, NYT, and CJ) She believes that all four news sights are liberal, and we need to research and follow conservative points of view as well. While I agree, I do not think it specially applies to this project.      Since this project is about following current events and not diving into opinions, the political standing of the news outlet used is not particularly important. All we need as students is to record events happening in our world. It would be almost impossible to incorporate political views into a headline of a current event.
