“Mass Communication” A Response to Isaac Barnett

Isaac’s blog post about mass communication seemed very bland and uninteresting. I understand that he enjoyed the conversation, but he gave us as readers no information about the topic. Just one short fact, and that he enjoyed it. I would have loved if he would have given us a description of mass comunication, or at least a definition. I agree with Isaac when he says that mass communication is interesting, but that is not the only thing I would say. It is a step by step process that leads to the entire world knowing something about anything. If Isaac were interested in the topic as he says, he would have showed his interest more, right? Diversity: A Critique to The New York Times

The New York Times website, while organized, is not very diverse. While searching, I found that everything on the homepage is political. There is nothing about anything other than politics, which is not a good thing for a homepage of a news website. A homepage needs to include a diverse selection of news that a particular news company covers.       Using all one topic on a news homepage makes readers who are uninterested leave. The New York Times is a huge news company, and covers more than politics. They need to show the variety of stories they cover to make sure everyone has a choice in what to read. This would boost up ratings and viewers dramatically.       Not everyone is the same, so The New York Times needs to come up aith many different stories to cover on the homepage. Everyone sees the homepage first, and it is how they decide whether to read on this website or not. A news company has to be diverse to gain every reader’s attention.  To see The New York

“Music and Recordings” A response to Anna Schroll

In Anna’s post, she explains how music has affected her life and all of society. She tells about how she cannot study or draw without music, and it often helps her on tests. Music has become a huge industry, and it is affecting millions of lives. Anna accurately explains how music has taken over culture, too. It has spread the cultures of other people around the world to us in America, and vice versa.       Anna’s description of the music industry is very accurate. It has taken over society, which is both good and bad. The way she ended on how music effects her has developed her school habits and hobby habits really summed up and added emotion to the topic, making it much more interesting.  To read Anna’s Blog:  http://annaj1blog.blogspot.com/2018/11/movies.html?m=1

“Magazines” A Response to Anna Schroll

In her article, Anna explained the significance of magazines to our culture. The way she explained the way magazines affect her life through her mom showed how magazines are significant to people who do not even read them. Anna does not mention reading magazines, but shows how her life would be affected greatly without them. The way she explained how her own family benefits from magazines really explained to me how important magazines our to human society.       Magazines affected so many people by creating an American culture.  Before, as Anna explained, we relied on other cultures to make magazines and express themselves, without a real ‘American Culture.’ Magazines helped to create an American culture that is still our culture today. The Courier Journal: Organization is Key

The organization of the Louisville Courier Journal’s website is very inconsistent. For example, there were stories about horse racing and high school football. Instead of putting them all together with their categories, the employees at Courier Journal put them in mixed order with many other stories of other topics.      It is hard to find stories that interest you and stories that you need to read if the organization is inconsistent. The website does not have many labels on their front page, which should be changed. The readers would have a much easier time navigating to stories of their interest or finding specific stories if The Courier Journal would take a few extra minutes to organize their content.      Organized content also lowers the amount of craziness on the front page, making readers feel more relaxed and want to read more. The amount of readers on The Courier Journal would be much higher if they would just take them time to organize their content. To view The

Response to Lily Wobbe’s response to Current Events Quizes

Lily Wobbe was very upfront about her opinions regarding our current events quizes in our Journalism 1 class. She explained how she does not agree with the choices of news sources used; NPR, WFPL, NYT, and CJ) She believes that all four news sights are liberal, and we need to research and follow conservative points of view as well. While I agree, I do not think it specially applies to this project.      Since this project is about following current events and not diving into opinions, the political standing of the news outlet used is not particularly important. All we need as students is to record events happening in our world. It would be almost impossible to incorporate political views into a headline of a current event. I completely understand her opinion that we need to incorporate all political views into our journalism, but for this particular project, it is not something to worry about.  To read Lily’s blog:  http://lwjournalism1.blogspot.com/2018/10/why-i-watch
